Business cards make the commerce and industrial world go round- meaning there is a large emphasis put on their use. If business owners and tradesmen are to be successful, more thought should be put into the composition of their business card.

Business cards will commonly sport several different newer technologies. It is now considered best to opt for multiple colors on a business card- so as to keep it exciting and visually appealing. The two or three toned business cards of the 1990’s just appear too boring by today’s standards. And when considering the fact that printing costs have decreased dramatically, this isn’t always an expensive option.

Although it isn’t necessarily new, the prospect of using raised lettering on business cards has always brought a sense of texture and appeal to business cards in general. The process involved a technique called thermography, which typically used heat in order to give the raised appearance. This is often an inexpensive option as well.

Gilded lettering and other glossy effects on text or the background of business cards also seek to bring attention to the card in question. These options are usually more expensive than other options such as multi coloring or raised print, although they do indeed do a better job at attracting the attention of the viewer. In most cases, a little extra money can go a long way.

Other business card fanatics are now resorting to distorting the common rectangle shape of business cards. Adding grooves, inset bevels, or even making entirely different shapes with business cards always warrants extra attention from the recipient. Although this is a nice touch, it is often unnecessary and will always cost more on average than the normal business card most are accustomed to.

There isn’t always a need to follow crowds when it comes to business cards. In some cases, using exotic materials with a business card’s design can mean all the difference. Obtaining custom carved wooden cards, metal, magnets, or even cloth all turn heads when presented. It is always sure to bring more attention to the card, although the prices are always drastically higher than the normal business card.

For business card owners, it’s nice to have technology work harder to create less expensive ways to obtain or distribute business cards. using CDs or even transmitting business cards over a wireless connection have both become prominent alternatives to the classic business card- and both prove to be very cost effective in the long run.

Overall, the business card world hasn’t changed much since its inception. Newer technologies are seeking to change that, however, and it might not be long before all the print and ink business cards are a thing of the past. But until that happens, always consider the extra design effects that come from shaping, coloring, and even deforming business cards as we know them in order to receive extra attention from potential customers. After all, the extra attention can go a long way in the world of business.
